Lasers

Explanation and Technology

What are different types of lasers?
Many types of lasers are used for cosmetic procedures. The difference in these lasers is the wavelength that they utilize, which is measured in nanometers. They include:

  • Ruby laser -- 694 nm
  • Alexandrite laser -- 755 nm
  • Diode laser -- 800 nm
  • Neodymium -- yttrium-aluminium-garnet (Nd:YAG) laser -- 1064 nm
  • Intense pulsed light system (IPL) without heat -- 550-1200 nm
  • Light and heat energy LHE -- 400-1200 nm

What types of lasers does Sona MedSpa use?
Sona MedSpa uses Alexandrite and Diode technology, both considered the "Gold Star Standard" for laser hair removal.

Definitions to know:

  • Alexandrite Laser Technology: The Alexandrite Laser is a shorter wavelength system with a specific light energy of 755nm. It is the fastest laser for hair removal and appropriate for quick treatment on parts of the body with large surface areas. The laser has the ability to penetrate deeply into the dermis. The resultant heat build up in the hair shafts disables the hair follicles and enables it to achieve effective laser hair removal.
  • Diode Laser Technology: A diode laser has a longer wavelength, which provides deeper penetration into the skin. For this reason a diode laser also can be used to potentially increase the results for level IV and V skin types. Finally, diode lasers allow effective treatment of large areas at one time, similar to the Alexandrite technology.
  • Neodymium-yttrium-aluminium-garnet (Nd:YAG) laser: An Nd:YAG is a type of laser used in cosmetic procedures. The Nd:YAG is an non-ablative laser, which means that it targets tissue in the deeper layers of skin, leaving the top-most layers uninjured. The laser typically is used to address cosmetic skin problems such as unsightly veins and pigmentation, and for the removal of unwanted hair.

Featured Laser: Alma Soprano
The Soprano with SHR mode by Alma Lasers provides, permanent hair reduction. The Soprano features an 810-nm diode laser, an "in-motion" technique, and a sweeping motion that ensures that there are no skipped spots. Like the Nd:YAG laser, it uses the proton-pumping technique to induce concentrated light to perform your procedure effectively.

The Soprano hair removal system is the new gold standard for 810--nm diode hair removal technology with true, 600-Watt CW PulseT technology. The Sopranos's CW-diode technology ensures homogeneous distribution of energy across the entire pulse. The uniformity of the delivered energy leads to better clinical results and much milder patient discomfort.

Features:

  • Fastest laser hair removal - Up to 3 Hz.
  • Reliable results - The Sopranos Continuous Wave diode technology provides consistency in every treatment.
  • Safe and effective - The Unique BlendMode pulsing 10-1,350 ms provides a safe and effective way for treating patients with most skin type.
  • Treats all types of hair - Powerful gold standard diode treatment head (up to 120 J/cm2) allows treatment of most types of hair.
